MAY 7, 2025 l CHAIN STORE AGE – In 1965, Milt Peterson was working for a homebuilder in Fairfax County, Va., when he decided to strike out on his own. Fairfax, now one of the wealthiest counties in the nation, was fairly wide open in those days. A lot of land was available at a reasonable price, and Milt had a different idea of what could be done with some of it.
