New apartments approved for former Fair Lakes office site

WASHINGTON BUSINESS JOURNAL – The Peterson Cos. got the green light to redevelop a former office site in Fair Lakes with up to 380 new apartments, a project that points to more residential to come in the surrounding area.

Fairfax County lawmakers unanimously approved rezoning the 4.4-acre parcel at 12801 Fair Lakes Parkway, where the 1980s-era Parkway Woods office building once stood, at their Tuesday meeting.

“This is the first major residential project in Fair Lakes in several years, and a good example of a compatible project that honors Fair Lakes’ original design intent and will drive the demand for the park’s retail, restaurant, and office uses,” Andrew Painter of Walsh Colucci Lubeley & Walsh PC, the project’s land use attorney, told me in an email.
