Exclusive: Ikea to open urban-format stores in Fairfax, Gaithersburg
WASHINGTON BUSINESS JOURNAL – Ikea has inked a pair of Greater Washington leases for yet another new urban-format concept, which appear to be the first of their kind in the United States.
Unlike at its other urban-format stores, at these Ikea locations, you’ll be able to pick up what you buy.
The Swedish furniture giant, best known for its sprawling retail warehouses, will open “plan-and-order” points with pick-up at Fairfax Corner in Fairfax and Rio in Gaithersburg — both Peterson Cos. developments. The former will be 4,458 square feet, replacing the shuttered South Moon Under, Peterson reps confirmed. The Gaithersburg store will span 8,882 square feet. Both could open later this year.
